Basketball 3 on 3: the official rules of the game briefly
Basketball 3 on 3 is a team sport, implying a confrontation between two teams. Fights are held on 1/2 of the standard basketball court. A mandatory requirement is the presence of only one basket. A distinctive feature of this discipline is the accessibility and simplicity of its rules. Amateur competitions can be held in parks and gyms. Formal tournaments require a more professional approach to organizing.
Matches of this basketball format are held on one of the halves of the basketball court, that is, in a rectangle of 14 by 15 m. The opponents should throw the ball into the same basket, therefore, theoretically, two fights can take place on the same classic court in parallel.
The marking of the field for 3×3 is traditional, that is, it has a free-throw line of 4.225 m, a semicircle under the ring to fix the fouls of the collision and a dog of 2-point throws (line of 6.75 m).
In basketball 3 on 3, each team should have 4 players: 3 field and 1 substitute. The coach is not allowed to be in the playing space. Substitutions are permitted at any time without the additional permission of judges and other officials. A spare can appear on the site at the moment when his partner crossed the center line (opposite the front of the basket). The touch of the players is optional, but in 3×3 basketball it is accepted.
Each team is allowed to take one 1-minute timeout, but only when the ball is “dead”, that is, it is not in the possession of one of the players or in flight. At major international competitions among national teams according to the regulations, 2 time-outs of 30 seconds are possible for each team. This is done for the sake of television channels, which at the time of a pause show ads of the main sponsors of the tournament.
Sowing teams before the start of the tournament and specific matches is carried out taking into account the current rating of participants. The respective rating table is maintained by the representatives of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). If the number of points for several teams is the same, then sowing is carried out randomly (by draw). National federations often maintain their own team ratings when it comes to local tournaments.
If the competitions are held on a round-robin system, then an equal number of points scored by several teams is possible. In this case, to determine the final places of the participants, the total number of victories is taken into account first, then the judges take into account the result of personal meetings of the opponents. If there is a draw in terms of the number of victories and in-person matches, then the distribution of places takes place by rating.
Before each official match in basketball 3 by 3, a warm-up is held. All the declared players of both teams who warm up on one half of the classic basketball field are released on the court.
The first possession of the ball in a match is determined by a coin toss. In this case, the party winning the lot has the right to choose the possession of the ball at the initial stage of the game or in case of overtime. By the time the meeting starts, each team should have 3 basketball players left on the field.
This discipline has one important feature that relates to playing time. The game period in the match can last up to 10 minutes. Playing time stops when the ball is considered “dead”. After that, the timekeeper again counts the time, and the opponents must finish the ball exchange.
The winner of the match is the team that scored 21 points or more first. This rule applies if the playing time has not been completed. If the period ended in a draw, then overtime is held. Before him is assigned a break of 1 minute. In overtime, the team wins, which scored 2 points first.
If, at the time of the start of the match or during the match, for some reason, the team was in the minority taking into account the substitute player, that is, there were less than 3 basketball players on the field at the same time, then a technical defeat is counted.

In basketball 3 on 3 there is a slightly different system of scoring, different from the classic in big basketball. One point is awarded for hitting the ball from the inside of the arc. A similar number of points is awarded for a free throw. For getting into the basket from the 2-point zone of the team 2 points are awarded. If a player successfully threw a projectile from outside the 2-point line, then his team is given 3 points.
The game always starts after throwing the ball. The player of the team that missed the ball has the right to resume the game by transferring or dribbling. For 3×3 basketball, the space behind the arc does not matter. After the ball is thrown, the team must not interfere with players located in the semicircle zone under the basket, as the collision foul is not fixed here.
After a free throw, the team in possession of the ball may proceed to the selection. In this case, the team that owns the ball must take it out of the arc.
